Barndomslandet

While searching for inspirational childrens books on Flickr, I stumbled upon this Norwegian childrens book from 1963 called Barndomslande. Literally translated from Dutch to English it means Bear Cathedral Country.

I instantly fell in love with the whimsical folk art. I adore the little mushroom head family and the cluster of beets. I tried to order the book online however it's out of print. Tomorrow I am going to venture off to the childrens books archive libraries that I know of to see if they have a copy.

Fish

A little poem I wrote:

I caught a fish

once.

With a line and hook

I lured an emerald story

whose scales

I could not grasp.

I passed this glittering, gleaming mono syllable

from hand to hand

admiring,

without trying to understand.

The glass, corporeal being gasped

As it flipped, flopped and floundered

I wondered,

Should I let it go?

Before I acted

It stopped moving.

I dropped it,

It sank to the bottom

With the weight of my mispronunciation

I pierced its fin

Wore it around my neck

Everyone commented,

What a beautiful gem stone.

The sun bowed its head

And I proclaimed

I see,

I see
